Professional Experience


Randy Merritt brought his 25 plus years of legal practice to the firm in its Sacramento County office in 2022. Since his admission to the California bar in 1996, Mr. Merritt has practiced law through a large international law firms as well as litigation boutique firms in Southern California before establishing a solo practice in Sacramento. During that time, he has handled numerous litigation matters, in both state and federal court, and arbitration panels, for a variety of clients, including both individuals and businesses – ranging from micro-businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Merritt’s litigation experience encompasses a broad range of practice areas, including employment terminations, discrimination, wage and hour claims, disputes over corporate governance and mismanagement, environmental claims, healthcare complaints, copyright and trademark disputes, fraud claims, and contract disputes. .

Education

Before graduating first in his class from the University of Iowa’s College of Law in 1996, Mr. Merritt obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History and Religion from Cornerstone University in Michigan, and Master’s degrees in Religion and Ancient Near East Studies from Denver Seminary and Claremont Graduate School, respectively.

Community and Professional Affiliations

Mr. Merritt has long been actively involved in numerous volunteer and community activities. For more than a decade, Mr. Merritt has served as a director and treasurer for the non-profit organization Early Manuscript Electronic Library or EMEL, an organization that uses digital technologies to make ancient manuscripts and other historical source materials that are otherwise invisible due to damage or deterioration accessible for study and appreciation by scholars and the public.

Mr. Merritt has enjoys serving as a judge for high school students engaged in a mock trial court experience. He also has volunteered to teach classes on baseball history (one of his many passions) whenever and wherever he can.

Personal

Mr. Merritt lives with his family in Elk Grove. In his free time, he enjoys spending time reading, writing, drawing, and taking advantage of any opportunity to learn something new.
