James “Jim” Roberts joined the firm’s Ventura County office in 2026, bringing 40+ years of legal practice experience. Mr. Roberts has been a practicing trial and business attorney in Southern California, with an emphasis on representing clients in personal injury, insurance defense, elder law, entertainment, real estate, and other business areas.  During that time, clients have ranged from top-five insurance carriers to celebrities and producers, property owners to manufacturing and marketing companies.

Mr. Roberts’ litigation experience includes serving as senior trial and managing counsel for larger insurance defense law firms, serving as lead trial counsel in multiple jury trials, and, later, as a sole practitioner.

His practice has included business clients ranging from start-ups to major corporations, providing legal counsel and services related to international business development, manufacturing, import/export, real estate transactions, business contracts, regulatory and government agency interaction and compliance, M&A due diligence, intellectual property, and brand/NIL licensing.  Mr. Roberts has also counseled individual clients and companies in specialized areas of international finance, intellectual property, renewable energy, and other consumer product markets; as well as helping to develop multiple cutting-edge patents and new businesses involving crypto and non-fungible art, AI-managed subsea oil & gas systems, AI-managed medical care and FDA-approved specialty medical devices, reduction of water and energy consumption at high-volume computer data centers, and a unique rapid, high-volume aerosol dispersal system used in the public safety and property protection fields.

Since 2007, Mr. Roberts’ services have also included consultation and lobbying on legislative and other government matters at the highest levels in California and Washington, D.C., as well as serving as an expert witness on insurance coverage and practices.

Mr. Roberts has frequently served as a business and legal consultant, arbitrator, and mediator on litigation and complex matters, as well as on negotiations and settlements, and has lectured on litigation avoidance strategies for attorneys and major corporations.

Mr. Roberts has been admitted to practice before all California state courts and the United States Central District Court in California since 1985.

Education

Mr. Roberts completed undergraduate studies at California State University, Northridge, majoring in business administration, before earning a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of La Verne in 1985.

Other Professional Services and Affiliations

For over 15 years, Mr. Roberts served as a volunteer Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles County Superior Courts.

Mr. Roberts has also been directly involved, independently and with affiliated entities, in all aspects of development and production of a wide range of theatrical motion picture, radio, and television entertainment projects, including personal work as an independent producer/writer.

Past and present memberships have included: Association of Southern California Defense Counsel; Beverly Hills Bar Association; Long Beach Bar Association; American Inns of Court, Ball/Hunt Long Beach Chapter; and the Association of California House Counsel (1993 – Founding Member).

Personal

Since 2022, Mr. Roberts has been a Chaplain with the California Highway Patrol with specialized certification in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing emergency services.

Raised in the Midwestern U.S., a former competitive athlete and long-time sports, arts, and music enthusiast, Mr. Roberts also enjoys time with his wife and adult children around their Ventura County home.
